END OF LIFE PLANNING

A SACRED AND HOLY SPACE—

THE SPACE BETWEEN HERE AND HEAVEN.

We believe if we start with how we want the end to be, we will live so differently today. More in alignment. More at peace.

Because the only thing that really matters when God calls us home isn’t money or possessions; it’s love and knowing that all will be okay with those you leave behind.

Our mission at Solas Financial is to guide you to that place of peace by focusing on four key areas.

WE DO THIS THROUGH:

We’ll help inventory your financial life to help ensure you have an understanding where everything is, who owns it, how it will be transferred to your heirs upon death, and most importantly—determine if this is how you want it to be. We help with:

  • Inventory your assets, income sources, and liabilities, including the ownership of each.
  • Identify the location of titles, deeds, and other important documents needed by your family upon your death.
  • Align beneficiary designations with estate planning documents.
  • Review unclaimed funds report.
  • Inventory all credit cards and their ownership.
  • Notate all information your family will need to complete a death certificate.
  • Budgetary planning specific to funeral arrangements and End-of-Life Celebration.

We create a financial roadmap for your family to ensure your loved ones are cared for when you’re gone. We will help with:

  • Define financial legacy goals and what it means to you for things to be taken care of after you’re gone.
  • Create a plan to provide for your spouse or family upon your death and outline the logistics to make it happen.
  • Project expected legacy amounts and identify what is available to contribute philanthropically.
  • Help define tax efficient strategies
  • Identify estate tax issues and develop efficient strategies if applicable.

We’ll ensure you have the appropriate documentation to communicate your wishes and desires, even when you’re no longer able to. Sound legal planning also ensures your assets go to whom you want, when you want, and how you want, without being unnecessarily tied up in probate. We help by:

  • Create an actionable checklist to have when the time is needed.
  • Identify the important people who will need to be contacted: executor, trustees, power of attorneys, investment advisors, insurance agents.
  • Understand the wishes stated in the Will, HCPOA, POA and Living Will, and ensure they still align with what you want—and if changes need to be made, with steps to help you make them.
  • Map out the flow of assets per your Will to help ensure the assets are titled correctly and that beneficiary designations align.

Even with good planning and organization, there are many things that must be done in “The After.” We assist and guide your family through it by:

  • Providing resources for grief and bereavement support.
  • Notifying the CPA of the death and need for final tax return.
  • Notifying the family attorney for the Administration of the Estate; supporting the family during the process with organization and follow-through.
  • Provide guidance on the retitling of any joint assets to a surviving spouse.
  • Updating beneficiary designations on all appropriate assets.
  • Provide guidance to help transfer or roll over funds in IRAs/401(k)s to named beneficiaries.
  • Assisting the surviving spouse in determining how to best handle Northwestern Mutual policy needs.
